Customers have witnessed a transformation to the Buehler’s Wooster Milltown store over the past fourteen months. The store, originally opened in 1980, now boasts an all new look with new departments, new services
and new products. An official “Bread Breaking Ceremony” on Monday, November 3, 2014, commenced the festivities. A two week Grand Opening celebration runs November 5 – 18, 2014, with special savings and giveaways.

“The all new Milltown store has been designed with the customer top of mind,” stated Dan Shanahan, Buehler’s President and COO. “We listened to our customers through focus panels and surveys, and incorporated their feedback into the design. The evolution of new departments and new services was focused on making our customers’ lives easier.”

New Departments to Buehler’s Wooster Milltown include:

• New State Liquor Agency – a “store within a store,” flanked by Beer and Wine Department

• New Chef’s Kitchen – featuring an array of chef-prepared food, made-to-order, for take-out or dine-in

• New The Kitchen Table – a fun, relaxed, comfortable atmosphere to sit and enjoy Chef’s Kitchen foods

• New Beverage
Bar – convenient self-serve with Coca-Cola Freestyle machine, Scenic River Coffee flavors, tea

• New Front Entrance – open, inviting, framed with natural light and home to the grocery carts for easy access

• New Community Room – free rental to non-profit groups for small meetings and parties with catered food options

• New Chef’s School – training room for Buehler’s chefs to test recipes and menu items

Bob Buehler, ExecutivWooster-Restaurant-Chefs-Kitchen-Photoe Vice President of Marketing and Fresh Goods stated, “The Buehler family would like to thank Wooster and the surrounding area for its support.  With community input, we have changed our store by adding products, services and features found in the best stores across the United States. We are excited about the opportunity to serve the community at large and be active in its success while continuously improving both.”

“As a result of our Sign the Beam and Handprints in History promotions to engage the community during the remodel, our employees, customers, and KidzPark kids are a lasting part of our remodel, added Jack Kerby, Buehler’s Milltown Store Manager. “They may view their signatures on the structural I-beam or see their handprints in the lobby entrance every time they’re in the store.”

The timeline for the project was designed not to disrupt the customer’s shopping experience. To minimize customer inconvenience, contractors worked nights, and there was no construction over the 2013 holiday season. The project was spearheaded by local contractor, Bogner Construction, and Buehler’s made a conscientious effort to support the community by involving over sixty local contractors and businesses.

Buehler’s Fresh Foods is celebrating 85 years as a family-owned and operated supermarket. Industry peers and officials have given recent recognition to Buehler’s accomplishments by awarding: 2014 Retailer of the Year (Cleveland Food Dealer Association), Ohio Business Profile (Jon Husted, Ohio Secretary of State), Resolution – food and agriculture (John Kasich, Governor of Ohio) and featured business in the national magazine publication Retail Merchandiser.

Chefs-Kitchen-1Wooster now boasts an exciting new food service concept inside Buehler’s Milltown location to celebrate an array of fresh chef-prepared foods, available take out or dine-in. Customers place their order at the Chef’s Kitchen counter, pay at the separate food service register, and then choose to take-home or dine-in the all new Kitchen Table casual dining area.

Chef’s Kitchen offers classic favorites and delicious meals made-to-order while you watch. Options include freshly-made hand-stretched pizza (whole or by the slice) baked in our brick oven, custom signature sandwiches prepared with only the freshest ingredients and capped off with fresh-baked breads from the bakery, and your favorite authentic wok-fired Chinese foods. In addition, customers may select combinations from the freshly prepared Chef’s Signature entrees (Asiago Chicken, Ribs, Pulled Pork, etc.) and sides dishes (Loaded Twice Baked Potatoes, Broccoli Slaw and more).  And if that’s not enough, there are six varieties of hot soups made from scratch, an expanded fresh salad bar, and sushi rolled by hand daily by in-store sushi chefs. There is something for every palette, hot or cold, custom prepared for you!

The Kitchen Table area offers a fun, relaxed atmosphere to sit down and enjoy the chef-prepared foods. Meet a friend for coffee and dessert, be in and out over your lunch break, or relax with family after a busy day, The Kitchen Table is your home away from home.

A convenient self-serve drink area and designated register gives customers the value and convenience they have been asking. This area features a Coca-Cola Freestyle machine, with over 100 choices to mix and match and create your custom soda flavors. Scenic River Coffee flavors, tea, as well as an extensive option of your favorite bottled beverages are available.

Kitchen-Table-1“The key is the customer – customers are in control,” stated Jack Kerby, Store Manager Buehler’s Wooster Milltown. “Unlike traditional restaurants, you select the amount of food you want (so you’re not paying for food you don’t want), and there’s no tipping. What a value!”

Buehler’s, Milltown store remodel is nearing completion, with the Grand Opening scheduled for Wednesday, November 5th. Watch for details on new services, new departments, and new products.

Big-Beer-1

As part of the Buehler’s Fresh Foods Wooster Milltown remodeling project, the store now offers fresh draft beer on tap. The new “Big Beer Exchange,” is located in the Beer Department and features eight tap varieties of craft and specialty beers. Reusable glass containers, also known as Growlers, are available in 32 and 64 ounce sizes. Growlers are filled while you wait to take home and enjoy your favorite brews. Tap offerings will include limited releases, as well as offerings from local breweries: JAFB-Wooster Brewery, Millersburg Brewery, and The Brew Kettle Brewery in Strongsville. Draft beer taste samples are available for 25¢.

You can find out what’s on tap on the Wooster Big Beer Facebook page.

“The opportunity to sample any of the high-quality draft beers prior to purchasing a Growler is a real benefit to our customers,” stated Jack Kerby, Buehler’s Wooster Milltown Store Manager. “And with the addition of the Wine Tasting Bar, customers have the chance to sit down and relax with a glass of wine.”

The new Wine Department includes a Wine Tasting Bar where customers may select from a range of wines to purchase a 5-ounce glass for $5 or up. With the expansion of the Wine and Beer Departments, Buehler’s now boasts one of the largest selections in the area with over 1,000 wines and 800 beers. The inclusion of the State Liquor Agency store, conveniently located next to this department, offers over 1,000 spirits.

Work continues on the expansion of the front entrance. This inviting new space will welcome customers with doors on either side, and will house the shopping carts. The new KidzPark location has moved to its permanent home near checkouts, with a colorful, hands-on space to entertain children while parents shop. An additional new concept to Milltown, the Community Room, is taking shape, and will be available to the public for meetings and gatherings.

Customers will witness transformations to the Bakery Department (made from scratch production), Chef’s Kitchen (expanded food selections of hot or cold foods for take home or dining in), and The Kitchen Table (sit down causal dining) in the weeks ahead. These new concepts are not only unique to Buehler’s, but unique to our region and transcend supermarket perceptions. The remodel will be completed prior to the holidays.

Buehlers-GreenChill-Awards-photoBuehler’s has been nationally recognized with two U.S. Environmental Protection Agency GreenChill Partnership Awards for 2013. The Most Improved Emissions Rate award recognizes Buehler’s for lowering its refrigerant emissions rate more than any other supermarket in the GreenChill Partnership. Additionally, Buehler’s met its refrigerant emissions goal for 2013 to earn “Superior Goal Achievement” award.

“GreenChill is pleased to honor Buehler’s Fresh Foods with its second GreenChill Most Improved Emissions Rate award and Superior Goal Achievement award,” said Tom Land, GreenChill Program Manager. “Buehler’s achieved two notable feats in 2013. First they achieved a larger reduction in their refrigerant emissions rate versus 2012 levels than any other GreenChill partner. Second, Buehler’s has achieved a larger reduction in their emissions rate compared to their first year in the partnership than any other partner”

EPA’s GreenChill Partnership 2014 award ceremony was held at the Food Marketing Institute Energy & Store Development Conference in St. Louis, MO, on September 8th at 7:00 a.m. EPA’s GreenChill Partnership holds a ceremony once a year to present its Achievement Awards.  Becky Foster, Buehler’s Vice President Construction and Maintenance, received the awards for Buehler’s based on her efforts with Dan Steffen of Harrison Refrigeration, Buehler’s Refrigeration contractor.

EPA’s GreenChill Partnership works with supermarkets to reduce refrigerant emissions and decrease their impact on the ozone layer and climate change. The Partnership helps supermarkets transition to environmentally friendlier refrigerants; reduce harmful refrigerant emissions; and adopt greener refrigeration technologies and environmental best practices. There are approximately 8,000 GreenChill partner stores throughout the nation. For more information on EPA’s GreenChill Partnership, please visit www.epa.gov/greenchill.

GreenChill partner stores have much lower leak rates than average stores in the U.S. If every supermarket reduced its leak levels to the GreenChill average, the supermarket industry could save more than $100 million in refrigerant replacement costs and reduce emissions by about 27 million metric tons carbon dioxide equivalent.

Becky Foster, Buehler’s Vice President Construction and Maintenance, states that “…this is just one of many environmental and sustainability issues we address as a company.  We were innovators in the 1970’s by reclaiming the heat generated from our refrigeration compressors to heat our stores. In recent years, we have undertaken many projects to decrease electricity usage, including evolving light technologies, refrigeration innovations, and recycling programs both within Buehler’s and for the communities we serve. We recycle food waste into our Buehler’s Bagged Compost sold in our stores and at select ACE Hardware stores in the region. Buehler’s demonstrates its commitment to environmentally responsible behavior through its actions.”
