The truth is that less than 1% of US farmland is certified organic, and transitioning conventional farmland to organic is difficult. That's because farmers have to implement more costly methods, like growing crops without genetically modified seeds and not using synthetic fertilizers, for at least three years to become certified. And, while more organic acreage is good for all of us, it can be hard for farmers to make the conversion because they don't see an immediate return on their investment. So we helped create Certified Transitional, an initiative that supports farmers as they transition their farmland. When we started working with our first farmer, Newton (pictured above), we sourced his certified transitional wheat for this cereal. We're happy to report that his farm's transition is now complete! To date, we've paid farmers $1 million in premiums as part of this program, and we've also expanded from one farmer, to twelve farmers and growing. We couldn't have done it without you!
