Buehler’s Fresh Foods Offers Spring Coho Salmon All Year

Buehler’s Fresh Foods Seafood Department is pleased to offer customers Spring Coho Salmon twelve months out of the year. Once a seasonal product, the year round availability is attributed to breakthrough research and sustainable practices developed by nationally renowned partners, and spearheaded locally by Homestead Springs Farm in central Ohio.

Coho Salmon, typically found in northern Pacific waters, can be raised in the largest spring fed aqua culture farm in Ohio. With 1,000 to 2,000 gallons per minute generated from the natural spring, this pure clean water is perfect for raising Spring Coho Salmon. Due to revolutionary natural procedures, the salmon are convinced they are in the “smolt” cycle, thus eliminating the need for them to migrate to salt water.

This delicate tasting Spring Coho Salmon has no antibiotics, no hormones, and raised in pure spring drinking water. The Spring Coho Salmon diet is sustainable, as well, with a custom mixed to order feed of 40% vegetables (among the highest in the industry), and less than 28% fish bi-product and oil (among the lowest in the industry).

Because this is a local product raised on a family farm, Spring Coho Salmon is fresh – never frozen – to Buehler’s customers. The salmon can be in the water one day and in Buehler’s Seafood Department the next. You cannot get much fresher than that!

Progressive Grocer Independent honored its 2015 Outstanding Independents at a reception held during the recent National Grocers Association (NGA) Show in Las Vegas on Monday, Feb. 9. Buehler’s Fresh Foods was honored in the “Wow” Factor category for its 14-month remodel of the Wooster, Ohio Milltown location. “For the third consecutive year, Progressive Grocer Independent sought the best of the best in several different categories,” said Katie Martin, PGI editor-in-chief. “Buehler’s Fresh Foods truly expressed the ‘wow’ in the ‘Wow’ Factor category. The remodel not only encompassed cosmetic changes with a redesigned dairy department but also featured a retooling of product offerings with the revamped foodservice department as well as beer, wine and liquor categories. It was truly a floor to ceiling remodel.”

The annual awards focused this year on independent retailers who excelled in one of 11 categories: outstanding single-store operator, outstanding multi-store operator, bakery, center store, community outreach, deli/foodservice, meat/seafood, produce, sustainability, technology and “wow” factor. In addition to the awards reception, all of the winners are featured in the February issue of Progressive Grocer Independent.

Candidates for the awards are nominated by industry associations, suppliers, wholesalers/distributors as well as editorial recommendations. This year’s honorees come from a variety of operations throughout the country, but they all have one thing in common: all are independent retailers who have listened and made a connection to their community.

Wooster now boasts an exciting new food service concept inside Buehler’s Milltown location to celebrate an array of fresh chef-prepared foods, available take out or dine-in. Customers place their order at the Chef’s Kitchen counter, pay at the separate food service register, and then choose to take-home or dine-in the all new Kitchen Table casual dining area.

Chef’s Kitchen offers classic favorites and delicious meals made-to-order while you watch. Options include freshly-made hand-stretched pizza (whole or by the slice) baked in our brick oven, custom signature sandwiches prepared with only the freshest ingredients and capped off with fresh-baked breads from the bakery, and your favorite authentic wok-fired Chinese foods. As part of the Buehler’s Fresh Foods Wooster Milltown remodeling project, the store now offers fresh draft beer on tap. The new “Big Beer Exchange,” is located in the Beer Department and features eight tap varieties of craft and specialty beers. Reusable glass containers, also known as Growlers, are available in 32 and 64 ounce sizes. Growlers are filled while you wait to take home and enjoy your favorite brews. Tap offerings will include limited releases, as well as offerings from local breweries: JAFB-Wooster Brewery, Millersburg Brewery, and The Brew Kettle Brewery in Strongsville. Draft beer taste samples are available for 25¢.

“The opportunity to sample any of the high-quality draft beers prior to purchasing a Growler is a real benefit to our customers,” stated Jack Kerby, Buehler’s Wooster Milltown Store Manager. “And with the addition of the Wine Tasting Bar, customers have the chance to sit down and relax with a glass of wine.”

The new Wine Department includes a Wine Tasting Bar where customers may select from a range of wines to purchase a 5-ounce glass for $5 or up. With the expansion of the Wine and Beer Departments, Buehler’s now boasts one of the largest selections in the area with over 1,000 wines and 800 beers. The inclusion of the State Liquor Agency store, conveniently located next to this department, offers over 1,000 spirits.

Work continues on the expansion of the front entrance. This inviting new space will welcome customers with doors on either side, and will house the shopping carts. The new KidzPark location has moved to its permanent home near checkouts, with a colorful, hands-on space to entertain children while parents shop. An additional new concept to Milltown, the Community Room, is taking shape, and will be available to the public for meetings and gatherings.

Customers will witness transformations to the Bakery Department (made from scratch production), Chef’s Kitchen (expanded food selections of hot or cold foods for take home or dining in), and The Kitchen Table (sit down causal dining) in the weeks ahead. Today marks the official opening of the State Liquor Agency, inside Buehler’s Fresh Foods Wooster Milltown supermarket at 3540 Burbank Road, Wooster, Ohio. This completes the transfer and relocation agreement of Gary’s Liquor Agency, which Buehler’s purchased in October of 2013.

Dan Shanahan, President and COO of Buehler’s Fresh Foods stated, “With the highly successful opening of our Ashland State Liquor Agency in April, this move continues the establishment of Ohio Liquor Agencies inside Buehler’s supermarkets, and completes another phase of our Wooster Milltown remodel.”

Ron James, Buehler’s Director of Beer, Wine and Liquor added, “We are proud to offer our customers the convenience of one-stop shopping, and have strived to respect customers’ considerations by keeping this a store within a store, with its own doorway and register for payment.”

Buehler’s has a strong beer and wine offering, with over 500 beers and 1,000 wines available daily. There is a 10% discount on wine case purchases, and liquor agency customers may use their credit or debit cards. Wooster Liquor Agency customer service and convenience is enhanced with newly expanded hours, Monday through Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sundays.
