E&H Hardware to Purchase Foster’s ACE Hardware – Piketon

The family owned E&H Hardware Group is in the process of purchasing Foster’s ACE Hardware located at 617 Southwest Street, Piketon, Ohio. E&H Hardware will continue as an ACE Hardware, serving the Pike County community and surrounding areas. The Buehler family started in the hardware business in 1965 as part of Buehler’s Fresh Foods, and has expanded to seventeen ACE Hardware locations in Ohio.

Foster’s ACE Hardware was founded in 1978 by Fred Foster, who began as a True Value Hardware, and changed to the ACE brand in 1996.  After 38 years, Fred plans to retire from the hardware business, and focus his energy on his responsibilities as a recently elected Pike County Commissioner and spending more time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Foster’s ACE Hardware employees will be asked to continue working for E&H Hardware in the current location when the name changes to ACE Hardware. Additional employees may be hired to replace the current owners. The present friendly, helpful staff at Foster’s Hardware represent over 150 years of combined, professional experience and will continue to be available to help with each customer’s needs.

ACE Hardware will continue to sell and service “Stihl” power equipment and a great selection of products and services.  The goals of ACE Hardware are the same as Foster’s Hardware; to provide helpful, friendly professional service to every customer.

The hardware will close at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 15, and reopen at 8:00a.m. on Monday, April 18th in order to complete the transfer.  Existing House Accounts are encouraged to complete a new application between now and then in order to be set up in the new computer system and facilitate a smooth transition in purchasing.

Scott Buehler, President & COO E&H Hardware Group, stated, “We are fortunate to find another family owned, community minded retailer similar to ourselves.  The Foster family has done a terrific job with Foster’s Hardware, and we are excited to have Foster’s Hardware join E&H Hardware under the ACE Hardware banner.”

Family owned E&H Hardware Group is in the process of finalizing details to open an ACE Hardware store in Mansfield, Ohio at 1515 Lexington Ave., in early March 2016. The store is currently a True Value Hardware, and will be converted to Appleseed ACE Hardware. The store phone number will remain the same 419-756-8340.

Ace Appleseed - Jerry Rentfrow for Press Release

Jerry Rentfrow, owner of Appleseed True Value Hardware, will retire after 24 years of operating this local business. Jerry began his career as a banker in Grand Rapids, MI. In his spare time he was the neighborhood handyman, and in 1992 he decided to combine these gifts to pursue his dream job of owning and operating a hardware store. That year he and his family moved to Mansfield and purchased Getz True Value.

“Helping people has been the most rewarding part of my hardware career,” Jerry reminisced. “Looking back I am reminded of the many hard working employees and loyal customers that have made our business successful.” While he will miss the daily interaction with long-time friends and customers, he and his wife Anne look forward to beginning a new chapter of their lives as they spend more time traveling with friends and family, and relaxing at their family cottage on Pleasant Hill Lake.

The Appleseed True Value Hardware will close at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 27 and reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 3 (or sooner).  This will give E&H Hardware time to do a minor remodel and prepare the store for the ACE conversion.  Existing House Accounts are encouraged to complete a new application so they are able to purchase product during this time.  The rental department will remain open during this short period.

All departments will be expanded, including; lawn and garden, outdoor power equipment, builder’s hardware, electrical, housewares, and tools. A full service paint department will offer Valspar, Clark & Kensington, and custom color matching. An expanded plumbing department with pipe cutting and threading is also planned.  Other services include screen repair, glass cutting, key cutting including automotive chip keys and automotive entry key fobs, and propane exchange.  The Rental Department will continue to be a valued part of the business with plans to begin delivery and pickup.

The store will feature many name brand products including: Wooster Brush, Dewalt, Craftsman tools and power equipment, Weber grills, GE and Feit LED light bulbs, Scott’s Miracle Gro products, Ortho, Quikrete, and many more.

E&H Hardware plans to keep as many current employees as possible, and will hire several to replace the void created by Jerry’s retirement.  Job postings may be found on www.indeed.com by searching Ace Hardware.

Buehler’s Fresh Foods to Close Delaware, Ohio Store

WOOSTER, Ohio- January 4, 2016

Buehler Food Markets, Inc. today announced the decision to close their Delaware, Ohio store located at 800 West Central Avenue. It should be emphasized that the ACE Hardware Store will remain open, even after the supermarket closes.

“The actual date of closing will be determined over the next few weeks after consulting with our store management, employees, vendors and other tenants,” stated Dan Shanahan, President and COO of Buehler’s. “Most likely it will be mid-to-late February.” In the interim it will be business as usual with continued delivery of Buehler’s weekly ad. The supermarket does anticipate offering discounts over the next few months as they sell down inventory.

The painful decision to close came after a year of deliberating Buehler’s entire portfolio of stores. As the company continued to add stores, remodel and refresh their current base of stores, they had some hard decisions with respect to underperforming stores. Buehler’s tried a number of initiatives over the last few years at Delaware, but were at a disadvantage with only one store in a heavily overstored Delaware market.

Buehler’s extends its gratitude to the outstanding Delaware store team and their families for their years of service, understanding, and flexibility during this time of transition. 131 employees are affected by the store’s closing; 40 full-time, 23 part-time, and 68 seasonal. Eligible employees will be offered a position at other Buehler’s Fresh Foods locations. Those employees who choose not to transfer will be offered a severance package. Buehler’s will reach out to other Delaware supermarket retailers to recommend these individuals for employment.

Buehler’s Fresh Foods opened their first Delaware store in 1969, and moved to their present location at 800 West Central Avenue in 1986. E&H Family Group thanks the entire Delaware community, customers, and employees for 46 years of dedication, loyalty and support.

The ACE Hardware store, adjacent to the supermarket, will remain open. “We will continue to serve the hardware needs of the Delaware community with the friendly customer service ACE Hardware is known for,” stated Scott Buehler, President and COO E&H Hardware Group.
