Ace Appleseed - Jerry Rentfrow for Press Release

Jerry Rentfrow, owner of Appleseed True Value Hardware, will retire after 24 years of operating this local business. Jerry began his career as a banker in Grand Rapids, MI. In his spare time he was the neighborhood handyman, and in 1992 he decided to combine these gifts to pursue his dream job of owning and operating a hardware store. That year he and his family moved to Mansfield and purchased Getz True Value.

“Helping people has been the most rewarding part of my hardware career,” Jerry reminisced. “Looking back I am reminded of the many hard working employees and loyal customers that have made our business successful.” While he will miss the daily interaction with long-time friends and customers, he and his wife Anne look forward to beginning a new chapter of their lives as they spend more time traveling with friends and family, and relaxing at their family cottage on Pleasant Hill Lake.

The Appleseed True Value Hardware will close at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 27 and reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 3 (or sooner).  This will give E&H Hardware time to do a minor remodel and prepare the store for the ACE conversion.  Existing House Accounts are encouraged to complete a new application so they are able to purchase product during this time.  The rental department will remain open during this short period.

All departments will be expanded, including; lawn and garden, outdoor power equipment, builder’s hardware, electrical, housewares, and tools. A full service paint department will offer Valspar, Clark & Kensington, and custom color matching. An expanded plumbing department with pipe cutting and threading is also planned.  Other services include screen repair, glass cutting, key cutting including automotive chip keys and automotive entry key fobs, and propane exchange.  The Rental Department will continue to be a valued part of the business with plans to begin delivery and pickup.

The store will feature many name brand products including: Wooster Brush, Dewalt, Craftsman tools and power equipment, Weber grills, GE and Feit LED light bulbs, Scott’s Miracle Gro products, Ortho, Quikrete, and many more.

E&H Hardware plans to keep as many current employees as possible, and will hire several to replace the void created by Jerry’s retirement.  Job postings may be found on www.indeed.com by searching Ace Hardware.
